  • September 23, 2009 - 17 Weeks to Spring - Early Bird Deadline Fast Approaching Don't forget to sign up for the 17 Weeks to Spring Indoor Winter Training before October 1st (deadline Sept 30th) to avoid late fees. This program is nearing capacity but there are still a few spots left. Winter training is fun and it's even more fun if you bring a friend. Just like last year, participants received $10 back for each person they recommend. Just make sure your friend lets us know you recommended them! It's that easy!   • August 20, 2009 - Provincial Mountain Bike Race - trail change - Due to rain/weather the Provincial mtb race will still be held in Esterhazy but is moved to the same course as last year. The GPS coordinates are N 50 33' .484" W102 06' .827" Same arrangements for parking and the start/finish. Catered meal to follow at Rainbow Hall. Poster
  • August 20, 2009 - Positive Steps Walk - a fund raiser for Brain Injury Association Help support Nicole Wall as she walks in a fundraiser in honor of her father Kim. Here is the information from Nicole: This is Nicole Wall, daughter of Kim Wall who races in your Association. In April of this year you may have heard my dad suffered a brain aneurysm and was rushed to Saskatoon with two brain aneurysms. The first surgery to repair one aneurysm was successful and we are currently waiting on another surgery to repair the second aneurysm. On September 12th my mom (also a brain aneurysm survivor from eight years ago) and I will be walking in the Sask Brain Injury Positive Steps Walk- a-thon. We are currently raising funds to support this amazing cause. I would like to ask you if you would be willing to sponsor us in the walk through a monetary donation to the Saskatchewan Brain Injury. (There is a pledge form at the SCA office.)
  • August 20, 2009 - Harvest Century Ride - The Harvest Century (100 Mile ride) is September 13th. This is a 100 mile ride that goes through Delisle, and then weaves through the Pike Lake/Vanscoy area. It is supported by a sag wagon full of goodies. There is also a banquet after the ride. Certificates are given to the members who do it for the first time. There are door prizes and oh yes there is the now historic collectors item, the harvest century t-shirt. www.horizon100.com
  • August 20, 2009 - Congratulations to Arnold Boldt. He has been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2009 Para Road World Championships being held in Bogogno, Italy from September 8th - 13th, 2009. Funding from the CCA will allow the Tiers 2 para-athletes and the new para-athletes to be partially funded. If you would like to make a donation to help support the Canadian Para-cycling Road World Championships and alleviate some of the financial stress, e-mail Julie Hutsebaut at Julie.hutsebaut@canadian-cycling.com. All proceeds will go directly towards covering the athlete's expenses.

  • August 11, 2009 - The annual World Masters Time Trail Challenge is now less than 2 weeks away. Sunday Aug 23 at Wadena Sk. We have a flat course with new pavement, so there should be good times. Registration is at 8:30 am and the first rider is off at 9:00 am. If you are 30 years of age or older on Aug 23 you are eligible to ride. We will be competing against other teams from around the world. The 5 riders with the best time difference from the world age standards will have their times submitted to represent Saskatchewan. The cost is 5 dollars and there will be a chilli lunch after the race. You need to register so that we have a head count for the lunch. Bring your own refreshments. You can register by sending an e-mail to fjmatus@sasktel.net. Please include name, gender and age as of Aug 23 2009.

If you are interested in being nominated to the Council, contact the SCA office. (The CCA Advisory Council (AC) is to provide a forum for discussion and advice to the CCA board and management in order to advance the sport of cycling. Such advice will be in the areas of environmental scanning, business opportunities, international developments and relationship building and other areas that come to the attention of the CCA Board and management.)

  • July 9, 2009 - Junior Worlds for Julia! Congratulations to Julia Garnet for her first place finish at Junior Nationals in the Time Trial. By winning the race she received automatic selection to Junior Worlds in Moscow in early August. The downside selection to Junior Worlds is the cost. Although the Canadian Cycling Association is organizing the event they are not funding it and all athletes must pay their own way. It is pricey. To help support Julia, you can attend a steak night at the Mulberry in Saskatoon. Fun, food, getting together with your cycling friends and a chance to wish Julia all the best at Worlds! Maybe Julia will let you try on her national team jersey and medal!!

  • June 20, 2009 - The World Masters Time Trial Challenge will be held at 9:00 A.M. August 23rd starting at Wadena. Highway 35 is going to be the route. It is mainly flat, runs north/south and has a newly paved surface. This should be a fast course. Traffic count is fairly low on this road. Anyone aged 35 and over is eligible to compete. The more participants in the challenge, the better chance we have of getting good times. There are already 7 teams registered, some from as far away as England and Australia. There will be a 5 dollar registration fee, payable on race day. Registration can be can be done by sending an e-mail with your name, gender and birth date to fjmatus@sasktel.net.

  • March 12, 2009 - CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS: CYCLING ADVISORY GROUP The City of Saskatoon is forming an advisory group to provide citizens' perspectives, advice and input to Administration about bicycling facilities, policy and programs. The Cycling Advisory Group will meet once a month, starting in April. Meetings will be in City Hall on Wednesdays, beginning at 3:30 p.m. and continuing for up to 90 minutes. If you are interested in serving on the Cycling Advisory Group, please call the City of Saskatoon, Infrastructure Services Department at 975-2454 and ask for an application, or visit our website at www.saskatoon.ca. Application deadline is March 24, 2009.
  • March 10, 2009 - Loss in our cycling community: Herb Essenburg, who rode with the Saskatoon Cycling Club for many years, passed away peacefully the morning of March 8, 2009 at Parkridge Center in Saskatoon, with his son Bruce at his side. Herb battled cancer for several months in City Hospital and the palliative care unit of Parkridge Center. Herb frequently attended Wednesday evening rides with the Saskatoon Cycling Club, enjoying trips to Cranberry Flats and socializing at coffee shops in the company of fellow club members after the rides. Herb's funeral The funeral will be held at Rock of Ages church, 130 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon, on Thursday, March 12th at 1:00 pm.

  • February 2, 2009 - congrats to Andrew Thomas, 47th at World Cyclo-Cross - although he was involved in a crash about 1 km into the race which placed him last, he worked hard and passed some riders to finish only 4 min down and the top Canadian.
