Update from BC

This past weekend was Garneau Evolution's first official team camp of the 2010 season and my first with the team.

Being new to the team, I wasn't too sure of what to expect from the camp, my teammates, or even my fitness level, although the first thing on the itinerary, a thirty minute compu-trainer race at Peak Performance in Vancouver, gave me a good idea of what to expect. The camp covered everything on and off the bike. After the brutal hard trainer race, the cycling portion the camp included a bit of everything: base, intensity, climbs, flats, tempo, sprints, and ultimately gave me a reality check on my fitness level and broken spoke, but more importantly, excitement and anticipation for the upcoming race season. The camp also included an off-bike component where we were shown our kits (pink, apparently), had our questions answered, and had an opportunity to spend time with our new teammates.

Upon returning to Victoria I have been able to take stock of the past weekend, realizing the exciting potential of the upcoming season for myself and Garneau Evolution. It has also given me an opportunity to realize the amazing support network behind me: all the sponsors, Jak New - Garneau Evolution's exceptional manager, my teammates who have been so generous and have made me feel so welcome, James-for all the great advice, my family-for your overwhelming understanding and support, and everyone back in Saskatchewan, I can't thank you enough.

I now have a week to rest up in Victoria before I leave for our next training camp in South Carolina where we will meet up with the Quebec team. Hopefully I can send an update from there.

All the best Saskatchewan, Chris McGarity
