Borealis Outdoor Adventure is looking for bicycle safety instructors to visit Saskatoon's elementary schools during May and June.
This is a rewarding and fun summer job opportunity for post-secondary students enrolled in Education, Kinesiology, Nursing or other career that involves working with children and young cyclists. This six-week contract offers the opportunity to work outdoors, get exercise on the job, build relevant work experience to show on a resume or in a portfolio, and provide relevant work experience between the end of exams and the end of June. The work is attractive to post-secondary students, but is not limited to students. Anyone 18 years of age or older can apply. All I ask in return is that you respect the investment that the program's sponsors (City of Saskatoon, taxpayers, SGI and P.O.W. City Kinsmen Club and Saskatoon's school boards) have made toward the program and the effort that has gone into providing your training and certification as a cycling instructor. You must be available during school hours for the duration of the program, May 12 - June 20. Training, certification and orientation of instructors takes place during the week of May 12. School visits take place from May 19 - June 20.
Flexible work arrangements are available, including job sharing. Starting salary is $360 per week, based on a 30-hour week at $12 per hour.
You may be required to submit a criminal record check as part of your application. Additional opportunities to provide cycling courses to adults in Saskatoon throughout the summer may also be available. The City of Saskatoon and SGI are proud partners of the Learn to Ride Safe Program. Sponsors of this new initiative include POW City Kinsmen, Catholic School Board and Public School Board. Instructors are employed by Borealis Outdoor Adventure, Inc., a Saskatoon-based company working in bicycle touring, education and advocacy since 1993.
