. Your picture on a moving build board!

At the Sask Cup Mtb #1 race in North Battleford, SCA president, Barret Kropf took a picture of a group of riders with their Team Sask jerseys.  That photo will now be part of the trailer wrap – the front of the trailer.  To view the photo go to: http://www.saskcycling.ca/letter/2011/front.pdf   Thanks to everyone who participated.

You have one more opportunity to get your photo on the wrap of the van!  Barret will be taking pictures at Bikes on Broadway for inclusion in the wrap.

Do you have a Team Sask jersey? If yes, bring it with you. We would like a large group photo of Sask riders at a race wearing Team Sask! New or retro Team Sask, just bring it along. You can always switch back into your team/club jersey for the race.

If you hadn’t planned on being at the race, you may want to; it is a great opportunity to have your picture on the van – just think about the bragging rights to friends and family!

Saskatoon Cycles

For those of us who ride the roads of Saskatoon, it might be time to think about access. I've been road riding for 25 years, and with Saskatoon's growth our access to safe road riding is getting squeezed. Our in-city roads are busier than ever. Access to the countryside via Waneskewin Road, and Clarence Avenue used to be simple and safe, but most people avoid these routes now unless it's absolutely necessary. The ride out Lorne Avenue has become extremely popular since the highway was redone a couple of years ago and features such nice shoulders. But there is a new freeway going in right across that route, and though I may be wrong, I'd be surprised there has been much thought given to cycling. I'm sure there are more example.

Saskatoon Cycles is a cycling advocacy group whose mandate is to improve safe cycling opportunities in Saskatoon. The group wants to increase the number of cycling lanes, and raise the maintenance priority level given to existing lanes. The group got a lot of media coverage this spring when it issued a press release over the unusable condition of some bike lanes. The grass in the park along parts of Spadina and Whiteswan had been swept of gravel, leaves and grass, and this detritus filled the cycling lanes, in places up to 8 inches deep. The group is just now developing its short, medium, and long term lobbying plans.

Saskatoon Cycles would like to add your voice. Go to www.saskatooncycles.org  and sign up free. The group has grown to over 400 members in less than 2 years, and we want to double that number this summer. It is my personal hope (along with others) that road cyclists will be well represented within Saskatoon Cycles, and at the City table.
