It was a great weekend of cross racing in Saskatoon, this past weekend.
We were treated to a wide-open flowing course on Saturday (thank you, Cycledelia)
and all survived the windy conditions. Great memories of the course include
a power run (or ride if you could) up the stairs on the Diefenbaker hill, some
wicked-awesome corners among the trees and yummy treats to munch on post-race
(with donations going to Breast Cancer research).
Day two brought our racers to Blackstrap Provincial Park and the beach front
race was not only a gorgeous location, but involved tight, twisting turns through
the park pathways, a bit of sand and just enough elevation to tire us out (but
not enough to kill us after the Sat race). Cody Canning & Rob Britton (welcome
home to both racers) were neck and neck through the course and finished 7 laps
in 47:08 (Cody just nipping at the line). Several sprint finishes took place
including the race for 2nd & 3rd place in the Cat 3 category, between Nathan
and Pedro (with Pedro just squeaking in front). Congratulations to Stephen Cooley
for taking first place in that category. Cat 4 was won by Albie Malan (who was
well in the mix, again, with the Cat 3 men) and Cat 5 was won by Tyler Korpan
(who is still quite new to this sport - I see a successful future brewing).
The Women's Cat 3 race was won by Susan Clarke (managing to keep the bike more
upright this race, than in the last one). The Women's Cat 4/5 Category was the
biggest in quite some time and Sarah Robbins successfully won (welcome back
after a small hiatus). Congratulations to everyone who participated. All race
winners were treated to cash and yummy chocolate milk and random draw cash prizes
and draw prizes were handed out. Extra special shout-outs to the younger participants
and folks trying cross racing for the first time! We hope you will be out again!
The BCW Cycling Club would like to thank all of the participants, volunteers,
spectators and sponsors. Special thanks to Cycledelia, for lending us the course
marking stakes and podium, and to GU, Booster Juice, Co-op at Preston Crossing,
Sask Cycling & Sask Sport. We look forward to putting this race on again
next year
