Trails in and Around Regina
So your friends in B.C. want to know why you have a mountain bike because,
after all, the prairies are flat? Right? Wrong! We may not have mountains but we
do have the valleys and there are lots of places to ride. Here are a few places
right in Regina:
- For WiseRiders interested in riding the pavement, the Devonian pathway
stretches through the city, winding through picturesque Wascana Park, and offers
cyclists the opportunity to have an easy day on the bike. The Devonian is an
asphalt pathway desig ned for pedestrians, skateboarders, roller skaters, skiers
and cyclists only, so you can enjoy your ride worry-free of vehicles.
- For those interested in some trail riding, try Douglas Park Hill. It is
located at McDonald Street and Assiniboine Avenue.
If you want to
travel a little further away and make a day of it with your family and friends,
try these locations in the Regina area:
- Wascana Trails offers a variety of trails. Recreational riders will appreciate
the gradual hills and the trails that stretch through ash, elm and aspen groves.
Wascana Trails is located 10 kilometres west of the Condie Nature Refuge off
Highway 11. Turn west at Exit A. Signposts indicating "Recreation Area" will
keep you on track. This is also the location of the 2005 Canada Games Mountain
Bike Race.
- The Regina Beach area has a trail system which spreads out from the village
itself. To find the trails follow Center Street down to the lake where you can
turn either left, toward the western trails, or to the right, toward the eastern
sections. SunLi ght Cup Mountain Bike Race #1will be held on May 14th in the
Regina Beach area, come out and join the fun.
- Buffalo Pound Provincial Park has established trails and new trails which
were developed for the Canada Cup Mountain Bike Race held 2000 & 2002. The
main trail system is located at the Nordic ski trails behind the White Track Ski
Resort.
