Have you heard of the Leadville Trail 100?  It’s a 160km “ultramarathon” on mountain bike held in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains.  Picturesque scenery, and high altitudes make it one of the most challenging races in existence with 14,000 vertical feet of climbing!

The documentary “Race Across The Sky – Leadville Trail 100” follows the competition in August 2009, with some competitors you may recognise... Lance Armstrong, and some you may not...

Come for the scenery, the sights of crazy light bikes, the camaraderie of fellow NBR members, and a good time!

2009 Poker Derby

Event Status: It’s A GO!

Last Updated: November 29th

Missing your fellow club members, or is this your first time out to a NBR event?  Well why not try out a Poker Derby on Bikes on December 6th at 2pm.

What is a Poker Derby?  A Poker Derby is a type of scavenger hunt where you gather points.  Those with the most points win.

We will meet at the Diefenbaker Center on the U of S Campus in the parking lot.  The poker derby will take place on the U of S campus and along the Meewasin Trail.  The cost for fun is $2/person.  That’s almost priceless!  Kids under 14 are free, but need a parent or guardian on their team.  There will be indoor activities to follow after the derby at Fuddruckers on 8th.

If you are wishing to participate or have questions please contact Erica by December 4th ideally, but if you have the sudden urge to come out just show up.  Contact Erica at moosh199@hotmail.com.

The itinerary for the derby is...
2-2:10 registration
2:10-2:15 Rider meeting
2:20-3ish Derby Time, length of derby depends on the temperature and if there is fresh  at derby time

IMBA’s Trail Crew Visit

For those who missed it, when IMBA so graciously spread their knowledge of trail building with us and assisted with creation of a new segment of trail at Blackstrap Provincial Park, routing traffic away from heading straight up a “fall line”.  This brand new 270ft of glorious trail has been named after the volunteer who made it all happen, Brad Turk.  Make sure you send your applause his way next time you ride, the “Turkish Delight”

Sask Cup #3 - 2009 NBR/BCW Blackstrap Biter

The race is this Sunday, with a typical schedule:

9:00-10:15AM Registration (sign-on even for pre-registered entrants) and practice on the course.

10:00-10:30AM Bike marking for Junior and Senior Expert and Elite riders.

10:45AM Rider staging for all categories.

For those not pre-registered, registration will be available on site.  If registering on Sunday please ensure you have brought everything you will need to complete the paperwork, see the SCA’s Instructions

The race starts slightly to the east of the parking lot for the Ski Chalet, to find it head south west out the parking lot toward the main ski hill.  This trail will climb slightly and join the race course.  Follow the ridge by making a left turn and up a steeper hill to reach a plateau where the start/finish area will be.  (map).

The opening in the center of this shot is the start/finish area (which was the water/spare parts area last year).  The gravel area near the top of the shot is the Ski Chalet’s parking area (where it is suggested for you to park).  Typically you would head to Dundurn and turn east on highway 211 toward Blackstrap Provincial Park, it has good signage.

Be sure not to get bitten too hard!
